In Portuguese, Sobremesa means “dessert,” but in Spanish culture, it has a deeper meaning.

(estar en) Sobremesa: After the main meal of the day, which usually takes place around 2 or 3 pm, the Spanish often linger on at table enjoying dessert, coffee, or liqueurs, and spending time with one another before returning to work later in the afternoon. It represents the Latin importance of family and friendship.

The fine art gallery and restaurant Sobremesa, and the satellite exotic ice cream shop around the corner, embody this concept. The restaurant is a charming place to relax and enjoy the ambiance, savoring it after an exquisite meal. It has been found to be so romantic that, twice so far, men have chosen it to be the place they asked their beloved to marry them, and in both cases she said yes! It has also been chosen for many rehearsal dinners.
